Kirby and The Forgotten Land: Reimagining a Franchise

Kirby and The Forgotten Land: Reimagining a Franchise Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the latest installment in Nintendo's fan favorite franchise "Kirby". The adventures of everyone's favorite little pink ball has made its first jump into the realm of 3D. For the first time in the franchise's near 30 year history, he is now in the 3D perspective, as the series has almost always been 2D platformers, with Kirby's only brushes with 3D being in spin off's like Kirby's Air Ride a racing game on the Nintendo Gamecube. The simple change of perspective completely reinvents Kirby and possibly the future of the franchise, while still keeping the backbone of every Kirby game. Story Like most Kirby games, the story is very minor and not shoved in your face with walls of text or cutscenes, however, as is tradition in Kirby games there is a story hidden underneath for those that look deeper. At the beginning of the game Kirby and all the Waddle Dees and other citiz...

Guardians of The Galaxy: Loss Brings us Together

Guardians of The Galaxy: Loss Brings us Together     Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe many people have become publicly aware of some very niche and unknown characters, a perfect example of this effect is The Guardians of The Galaxy. The title of The Guardians in their original comic books have been passed down from group to group with members changing out very commonly. However, due to the MCU the team that has become the most famous is Human Peter Quill A.K.A Star-Lord, the Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, and of course Rocket Raccoon and his best friend Groot the Flora Colossus, yes a giant tree man.      On paper, this should not work, none of this should work and connect with audiences, but it did! Since then this rag-tag team has become a fan favorite, and possibly one of my favorite things to come out of their new found popularity is their video game released in 2021 developed by Eidos Montreal, simply titled "Mar...

Mass Effect: A Masterclass in World Building

Mass Effect: A Masterclass in World Building     Have you ever wondered what could lie just outside the reach of our atmosphere? In the depths of space in a seemingly everlasting expanse beyond our solar system? What planets there are to see, the potential of life and species far older or more advanced than our own? These are questions I have found myself asking countless times throughout my life since I first discovered Science Fiction as a kid and it lead me to question all kinds of things about the universe around me. Whether or not these things will be discovered by Humans one day is still unknown, however Mass Effect allowed me to experience what it could be like to have these questions answered, and as I hope to explain in this blog post is a masterclass in world building. Background     Mass Effect is a Action-Roleplaying game released by BioWare in 2007 for the Xbox 360, later brought to the PC and Playstation 3 in 2008 and 2012 respectively, and has si...

Halo: Infinite A Nostalgic Breath of Fresh Air

Halo: Infinite A Nostalgic Breath of Fresh Air Halo: Infinite was a refreshing nostalgic breath of fresh air. For many people this statement might seem contradictory, how can something be both nostalgic while also being a breath of fresh air? Isn't nostalgia just the effect of recycling the old and comfortable to fans of a franchise? On the surface, yes the is indeed all nostalgia is, however the ways in which halo: Infinite uses it's nostalgic elements blended with so many new and fresh ideas to the franchise shows how nostalgia can be an effective tool to create meaningful new experiences and by the end of this blog post I hope to convey to you what exactly I mean by this while also just giving my opinions on this game. Story I would like to discuss and give an overview of the story first as it will give good context for terminology and I do not want to give too many spoilers. Halo: Infinite takes place in the year 2561, making it effectively take place two years since the ...
